Server colocation is useful if you have the means to buy a server outright. The cost saving compared with several years of leasing a dedicated server is considerable. We will help you choose the server which matches your needs, then arrange for it to be shipped to the datacentre and connected to the internet.
From here on you will pay for the datacentre services only:
The staff at the datacentre are 100% focused on keeping customer systems online and are onhand to support when things go wrong. We will suggest when your server is purchased, that you sign up for same day parts and labour warranty and extend it for 3 - 5 years. This way you notify Dell and they attend to carry out the fix.
However, the Dell warranty does not cover configuration mistakes and accidental deletion. For example - If you misconfigure your network card and your server disappears from the net, we will have to request remote hands support. Remote hands is charged in half hours at a cost of £60 / hour inclusive.
Remote hands support will be stated in advance and where possible the price quoted. Eg. OS reinstall - is one half hours remote hands support - £30 will be charged. Generally remote hands starts when the when the datacentre technician has to connect up and login. Reboots and power cycles are free!
As a server owner, its your responsibility to decide when the life of your server is at an end. Its usually best to sell as a working server and get the datacentre to wipe the hard drives and reinstall your customers OS. However, you can also have the server taken off the network and shipped to you or another datacentre. Either way, the datacentre will charge £20 inclusive for taking the server off the network and boxing it up ready for shipment. The customer is then liable for all postage / carriage costs.
